Prairie Schooner Fiction Prize

I found out a couple of weeks ago that I've won the annual national fiction prize sponsored by the University of Nebraska Press and Prairie Schooner magazine.

An award of $3,000 accompanies publication of my book of short stories, Bliss, which will be out in the fall of 2010.  Most of the stories in the collection were previously published in Northwest Review, Prairie Schooner, New England Review, the anthology Potlatch, and The Other Side.

Alehouse Press and Rattle magazine poetry awards

In September I won the Alehouse Press (San Francisco) annual poetry contest and was also an awarded finalist in Rattle magazine's 2008 poetry contest. My poem, "Pinocchio," chosen from a pool of 1,200 entries, will appear in Alehouse's January annual. Rattle will publish "The Tulip Tree" in December, along with another of my poems, "Virginia," which they accepted earlier in the year.
